Welcome!

Hello there! Thanks for finding your way through cyber-space to the homepage of writer Alan Ackmann. See the list below for an overview of what this plucky little web-page has to offer:

  • An account of Alan’s publications, both prior and forthcoming.
  • An ongoing blog, providing notes about everything from craft to current events, pop culture to pedagogy. Whatever I feel like writing about, essentially! The most recent entry describes what barbershopping means to me (its worth readingl trust me) and also talks about the Story Workshop Approach, which is used a Columbia College. Also, to find all of the blog’s archives simply click the link to your left.
  • A brief preview of our dictionary of smells, which started as a project for my wife, who was born without a sense of smell, the poor lass! I would describe the project in more detail here, but instead I’ll let you click the link and find out for yourself.
  • A bookshelf page, which provides updates of books I’ve been reading lately. There will be a mild bit of critical analysis, but for the most part think of this as an “Alan Recommends” section. The most recent entry is a review of Tom Franklin’s Poachers.
  • A contact page, where you can drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you!

I’ll be updating content regularly, so check back often. In the meantime, enjoy!
